Data Science: An interdisciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge and insights from structured and unstructured data.

The modelling step is usually the smallest part. Most of the work is getting data into a state where a model can learn from it: handling missing values, encoding categories, spotting leakage where a feature secretly contains the answer.
That last one is the trap. A model scoring suspiciously well on validation data is more often a leakage bug than a breakthrough, and it will fail the moment it sees production data that doesn't contain the same accidental hint.
In Practice
My Fake News Detection project sits at this intersection — NLP preprocessing, feature extraction, and a trained classifier, not just a raw machine learning model dropped into an app with no data pipeline around it.
